The Challenge
Epic High School South serves a large English as a New Language (ENL) population, including many Spanish-speaking students. Within this group, 12 seniors had not passed the ELA Regents exam in the spring.
These students needed to retake the exam in August and earn a passing score to meet their graduation requirements. The school needed focused summer support that could address the particular content and skills each student still needed to strengthen.
The Approach
In summer 2025, Toolkit Tutors provided intensive ELA Regents review for the 12 seniors leading up to the August exam. Toolkit tutor Kiani Mustipher worked closely with school administrators to review students' previous exam results and identify individual content and skill gaps.
Using that information, Kiani developed a personalized plan for each student. Instruction combined targeted content review with exam practice so students could strengthen the areas that had held them back on the spring test and build readiness for their retake.
Kiani also used mini assessments at the end of tutoring sessions to monitor student progress and adjust support as the exam approached.

The Outcome
Every student assigned to Kiani passed the August ELA Regents exam, resulting in a 100% pass rate and allowing all 12 seniors to meet this graduation requirement.
School leadership also highlighted Kiani's preparation, professionalism, flexibility, and consistent monitoring of student progress. Students provided positive feedback about their tutoring sessions throughout the program.
