A successful tutoring program needs thoughtful design, strong curriculum, and clear reporting. But nothing matters more than the person working directly with your students. Our Approach
We hold every Toolkit tutor to three standards: they must be highly professional, capable of earning the trust of students and staff, and ready for the realities of working in a NYC school.
Professionalism
Professionalism starts with who we hire. We offer market-leading pay to attract experienced educators. That gives us the ability to be selective rather than simply fill roles.
Every candidate must have at least one year of in-person, school-based tutoring experience and teach a live demo lesson during the interview. We evaluate their preparation, clarity, judgment, and ability to adapt.
Trust
Trust is built through consistency. We select tutors who communicate clearly, use sound judgment, follow through, and build strong relationships with students and staff.
Schools can meet final candidates before placement, and the Toolkit program team stays closely involved once tutoring begins. The goal is a tutor who earns trust over time and becomes a dependable part of your school community.

NYC schools are busy, complex environments where schedules change and needs evolve. We hire tutors with prior school-based experience, prepare them for each placement, and support them throughout the program.
